Arsenal Hold Bayern to a Draw as Man United Suffer Heavy Loss to Como
Bayern Munich were denied a home victory in the Champions League as Arsenal fought back to secure a 2–2 draw at the Allianz Arena. Harry Kane's penalty had put the German champions ahead in the second half, but Declan Rice's late equaliser earned Arsenal a valuable point.
Elsewhere, Manchester United suffered another disappointing result, losing 4–1 to Como in Italy. Argentine playmaker Nico Paz was the star of the match with two goals and an assist.
Bayern Munich 2–2 Arsenal
Both teams started cautiously at the Allianz Arena. Bayern, without Michael Olise following his red card in the previous match, took some time to settle into the game.
Arsenal suffered an early setback when captain Bukayo Saka was forced off with an injury in the seventh minute.
His replacement, Eberechi Eze, opened the scoring in the 25th minute. The English midfielder raced onto a superb long pass from Martin Odegaard before calmly beating Manuel Neuer.
Bayern responded just 10 minutes later. Harry Kane produced an excellent pass from midfield to release Alphonso Davies, who broke into the Arsenal box before finishing past David Raya.
The assist was Kane's seventh of the season. Only Barcelona's Lamine Yamal, with 10, has registered more assists among players in Europe's top five leagues.
The second half produced chances at both ends. In the 48th minute, Bruno Guimaraes' header from Declan Rice's corner was cleared off the line by Neuer before the ball also struck the crossbar. A minute later, Raya made an excellent save to deny a header from Dayot Upamecano.
Bayern eventually took the lead in the 61st minute. Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber was penalised for handling Kane's shot while attempting to block it. After a VAR review, the referee awarded a penalty, and Kane calmly sent Raya the wrong way from the spot.
But Arsenal refused to give up.
In the 82nd minute, Viktor Gyokeres combined with Noni Madueke before setting up Declan Rice. The English midfielder fired a low shot from the right side of the box beyond Neuer to level the score.
The draw leaves Arsenal with seven points from three Champions League matches, placing them seventh in the table. Bayern, meanwhile, have now dropped points in consecutive matches after their previous 3–3 draw with Viking. They have five points from three games and sit 14th.
Manchester United Crushed by Como
Manchester United's difficult run continued in Italy as they suffered a 4–1 defeat against Como under Michael Carrick.
Nico Paz was the standout performer, scoring twice and providing an assist.
Paz opened the scoring just two minutes into the match with a curling effort from outside the box. In the 49th minute, his pass allowed Anastasios Douvikas to double Como's advantage.
Paz added his second in the 57th minute after taking advantage of a mistake by United defender Carlos Baleba.
Como then scored a fourth in the 76th minute when Jacobo Ramon headed home from Kaiki Bruno's cross.
Joshua Zirkzee pulled one back for United in stoppage time, heading in from Amad Diallo's cross. But the goal came too late to change the outcome.
The defeat means Manchester United have now gone seven consecutive matches without a win in all competitions.
For Como, meanwhile, it was their second consecutive victory in their debut Champions League campaign at home.
Bayern also endured a frustrating night despite concerns over Vincent Kompany's availability after he was reportedly affected by a virus. There were also doubts over Manuel Neuer's fitness, but both eventually took their places.
Neuer produced several important saves, yet Bayern could not hold on to their advantage as Arsenal secured a valuable point in Munich.
