Real Madrid Set New Record with Goals in 45 Consecutive European Home Matches
Real Madrid Set New Record with Goals in 45 Consecutive European Home Matches
Scoring at the Santiago Bernabeu has become a familiar habit for Real Madrid. Their 4–1 victory over Leipzig saw the Spanish giants set a new record by scoring in 45 consecutive home matches in the Champions League. No other team has scored in as many consecutive home games in European competition.
Bernardo Silva's goal in the 43rd minute secured the milestone against Leipzig. Kylian Mbappe, Arda Guler and Yan Diomande also found the net as Madrid celebrated an emphatic victory. Once again, the Spanish side demonstrated why the Bernabeu remains such a difficult venue for visiting teams.
Real Madrid Break Their Own Record
The latest achievement builds on a previous record set by Madrid themselves. Between 2011 and 2018, the 15-time European champions scored in 44 consecutive home matches in the Champions League.
That run came to an end on December 12, 2018, when CSKA Moscow defeated Madrid 3–0 at the Bernabeu. Madrid subsequently began another scoring streak at home, which reached 45 matches with their goal against Leipzig.
Another remarkable statistic highlights their consistency: Madrid have scored in 89 of their last 90 home matches in European competitions. The numbers reinforce the Bernabeu's reputation as one of the most challenging grounds for visiting sides.

Vinicius Junior Struggles for Form
Despite Madrid's convincing victory, Brazilian winger Vinicius Junior continues to search for his best form. Head coach Jose Mourinho substituted him in the 70th minute, bringing on Diomande.
Vinicius has failed to complete a successful dribble in each of his last two matches, an unusual statistic for a player renowned for his ability to beat defenders. He has scored just once in 11 appearances across all competitions this season and has gone nine matches without a goal.
Diomande, meanwhile, is gradually emerging as an effective alternative.
Mourinho nevertheless expressed satisfaction with Vinicius' performance after the match.
“Vini played well. He could have scored a wonderful goal, but the goalkeeper made a great save too. I wouldn't say he is upset; that is a feeling only he can explain. But his coach is happy. If he is hurting, it is because he wants to give so much to the team and the supporters,” Mourinho said.
Mourinho Praises the Mbappe-Diomande Partnership
Mourinho was also pleased with Madrid's attacking display against Leipzig. He believes the partnership between Mbappe and Diomande gave supporters plenty to celebrate.
“Seeing Mbappe and Diomande together made the supporters go home happy,” he said.

The victory provides Madrid with a confidence boost ahead of another major challenge. They are scheduled to face Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday night in La Liga, with the highly anticipated El Clasico approaching.
Asked about the upcoming fixture, Mourinho said: “It's just another league match. But it is not like the others. We will be ready.”
Madrid's latest home record underlines their remarkable consistency in European competition. Their next challenge will be to carry that momentum into one of the biggest fixtures of the season against Barcelona.
