Kohli and Gill Centuries Power India to Eight-Wicket Win Over West Indies

Virat Kohli celebrated a record-breaking day with a century, while captain Shubman Gill also reached three figures as India crushed the West Indies by eight wickets in the first ODI.

Batting first in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, the West Indies posted 295 for seven in 50 overs. India chased down the target in just 41.4 overs to take a 1–0 lead in the three-match series.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave India a strong start in the chase, putting together 74 runs for the opening wicket. Rohit fell for 32 from 35 balls, but Gill soon found a dominant partner in Virat Kohli.

The pair added 151 runs from 132 balls to take the game away from the West Indies. Gill reached his half-century from 49 balls before completing his century off 96 deliveries.

It was Gill’s first ODI century against the West Indies. He eventually scored 110 from 108 balls, including 13 fours and a six.

Kohli was even more destructive as the chase progressed. He reached his half-century from 40 balls before accelerating further.

The former India captain completed his century from 74 deliveries and also became the fastest batter to reach 15,000 runs in ODI cricket.

Kohli continued his attack after reaching three figures and combined with Ruturaj Gaikwad for a 75-run partnership from 46 balls. He finished unbeaten on 139 as India reached 300 for two in 41.4 overs.

The century was Kohli’s 55th in ODI cricket, while Gill’s hundred was the 10th of his career. Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 13.

Earlier, the West Indies made an excellent start after being sent in to bat. Openers John Campbell and Justin Greaves added 135 runs before the partnership was finally broken.

Campbell scored 62 from 60 balls, including six fours and three sixes, before falling to Kuldeep Yadav.

Greaves then completed his maiden international century, scoring 101 from 108 balls with 12 fours and a six. However, the West Indies struggled to maintain their momentum after his dismissal.

Amir Jangoo provided some late resistance with an unbeaten 58, while Roston Chase contributed 24. The West Indies eventually finished on 295 for seven.

Kuldeep Yadav was India's standout bowler, taking four wickets for 40 runs in his 10 overs and earning the Player of the Match award.

India now lead the three-match ODI series 1–0, with the second match scheduled for Thursday in Guwahati.
