Harry Kane Wins 2026 Ballon d'Or Ahead of Yamal and Mbappe
Harry Kane has won the 2026 Ballon d'Or, beating Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal to claim the biggest individual prize in football for the first time in his career.
The England captain was crowned at a glittering ceremony at the London Palladium after an outstanding 2025–26 campaign with Bayern Munich and England.
Kane's victory ends a 25-year wait for England. The last Englishman to win the men's Ballon d'Or was Michael Owen in 2001. Before Owen, Stanley Matthews won the inaugural award in 1956, followed by Bobby Charlton in 1966 and Kevin Keegan in 1978. Kane therefore becomes the fifth English winner of the men's Ballon d'Or.
Kane enjoyed a remarkable season with Bayern Munich, scoring 61 goals in 51 appearances as the German club secured a domestic league and cup double. Including his international goals, Kane finished the campaign with 73 goals for club and country.
He also scored six goals at the World Cup as England reached the semi-finals, further strengthening his case for the individual award.
Kylian Mbappe finished second in the voting, while Barcelona's teenage superstar Lamine Yamal came third. Rodri and Lionel Messi completed the top five.
Brazilian legend Ronaldo, a two-time Ballon d'Or winner, presented the trophy to Kane at the London ceremony. The 2026 edition marked the 70th anniversary of the award and was the first Ballon d'Or ceremony held in the United Kingdom.
Alexia Putellas Wins Women's Ballon d'Or
Spain and Barcelona star Alexia Putellas won the Women's Ballon d'Or for a third time.
Putellas previously claimed the award in 2021 and 2022. Her latest triumph further strengthens her status as one of the most decorated individual players in women's football.
She played a key role in Barcelona's successful campaign before moving to London City Lionesses, and her third Ballon d'Or victory adds another major achievement to her career.
